Major India technology expansion
Japanese technology services company NTT DATA plans to increase its Mangaluru workforce from approximately 900 employees to more than 2,500 by the end of 2027.
The expansion will focus on artificial intelligence, cloud computing and data services, alongside specialised work in healthcare, life sciences, automotive, manufacturing and high technology. The company entered Mangaluru through its acquisition of Niveus Solutions.
Why it matters: This is an important signal for India's technology ecosystem beyond Bengaluru, Hyderabad and other established IT hubs. It also highlights the growing importance of combining technical expertise with industry-specific knowledge.
What students should take away: AI and cloud skills become more valuable when combined with domain knowledge. Students should explore how technology is applied in sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing and automotive rather than learning technical tools in isolation.
