Important enterprise AI insight

A report published by Fortune India on 2 November highlights a major challenge facing Indian businesses adopting artificial intelligence. Even companies that have invested in GPUs and AI models are finding it difficult to scale projects because their underlying data is not sufficiently prepared, organised or governed.

The article cites a Dun & Bradstreet survey in which only 4% of Indian businesses surveyed described their enterprise data as fully ready for AI at scale. Another 58% considered their data partially ready.

It also references ServiceNow research identifying data accuracy, access and management as significant areas requiring improvement.

Why it matters: An AI model cannot deliver reliable business outcomes simply because it is powerful. It needs relevant, accessible, accurate and well-managed data.

What students should take away: Data engineering is an important foundation for AI careers. SQL, Python, databases, data pipelines, data quality, data governance and API integration deserve serious attention.

This also creates opportunities for students interested in AI engineering, analytics and enterprise technology beyond conventional data-science roles.
