Hiring and careers
According to staffing firm Xpheno's November 2026 outlook, India's active technology job openings have reached approximately 1.3 lakh, representing 27% year-on-year growth.
The distribution is particularly important:
- IT services companies account for approximately 76,000 openings.
- Global Capability Centres account for around 19,000.
- Software product companies account for approximately 12,000.
- Entry-level positions account for around 16,000 openings.
- Mid-level and senior positions account for approximately 70,000 openings.
The report also identifies Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune among the major technology hiring markets.
Why it matters: The headline growth in technology vacancies does not mean that fresh graduates have equal access to all these opportunities. A substantial share of advertised positions is concentrated in experienced talent.
What students should take away: Build evidence of practical ability before placement season. A well-documented project, a GitHub profile, a portfolio and the ability to explain technical decisions can help demonstrate readiness beyond academic qualifications.
These figures represent active advertised vacancies, not confirmed hires or jobs guaranteed to be filled.
