India Expands Semiconductor Push Across Design, Manufacturing and Talent

India's Semicon 2.0 strategy is expanding beyond fabrication plants into chip design, materials, equipment, advanced packaging, R&D and talent development.

Government announcements say around ₹1 lakh crore in investment commitments have been received and close to one lakh employment opportunities are expected across the ecosystem.

A separate September 18 update says around 70,000 design engineers have been trained over four years, while 400 engineering colleges and 105 startups have gained access to industry-grade EDA tools.

The important career takeaway is that India's technology landscape extends well beyond software development. Semiconductor design, embedded systems, advanced manufacturing and hardware-software engineering are becoming areas students should understand.
