New reporting on World Bank research highlights India among countries performing strongly on measures of AI readiness. The research discusses India's digital infrastructure, engineering talent and potential to benefit from AI adoption.
However, the report also points to important challenges. AI adoption remains uneven, particularly between large urban businesses and smaller organisations. Expanding workforce skills, improving infrastructure and bringing AI into public services are identified as important priorities.
The career implication is that India's AI opportunity will not depend only on how many AI startups or models the country produces. It will also depend on how successfully organisations across healthcare, education, finance, agriculture, manufacturing and public services adopt AI.
Why it matters for students
AI opportunities may increasingly emerge in traditional industries that need people who understand both technology and their specific business problems.
