Wipro wins fewer deals despite higher revenue: what the numbers mean

Source date: 15 October 2026 · Reported company results (Reuters)

What happened?

Wipro reported consolidated revenue of ₹247.53 billion for the quarter ended 30 September 2026, up 9.1% year on year. Net profit was ₹32.01 billion, which Reuters notes was below analysts' estimate of ₹33.69 billion; the supplied brief describes it as a 1.5% fall.

Total deal wins fell to US$2.6 billion from US$4.7 billion a year earlier, according to Reuters. Reuters also reports that revenue was helped by a revival in spending by European clients and by AI unlocking new revenue streams.

Deal bookings indicate business signed or committed for future delivery. They are not revenue already earned, and they do not translate directly into immediate hiring or layoffs.

Why is this significant?

IT services companies depend on customers continuing to spend on technology, software development, consulting and transformation projects. A company can report higher revenue from work already underway while its pipeline of new deals weakens. If that continued, it could eventually affect growth, investment and staffing decisions. A single quarter does not prove those consequences will occur, and the results should not be attributed to AI alone.

What this means for technology careers

  • Revenue, profit, deal bookings and hiring are four different measures; do not treat one as a proxy for the others.
  • The job market depends on client spending, project demand and business strategy, not only on which tools are popular.
  • Build transferable foundations and learn how technology solves business problems.
