Students Aren't Waiting for Colleges to Teach AI. But Is Learning AI Enough?
Indian college students are adding online AI courses to their degrees. As that becomes common, a course alone becomes a weaker differentiator.

Indian college students are increasingly turning to external AI courses and online learning alongside their degrees as they try to keep pace with changing industry requirements, The Economic Times reports. Edtech platforms such as Coursera, Simplilearn, upGrad and Emeritus say they are seeing more college students use their platforms to build skills, particularly in AI.
The trend shows students aren't necessarily waiting for university curricula to catch up before developing AI skills.
But this creates another challenge.
If Degree + AI Course + Certificate becomes increasingly common, completing an AI course alone becomes a weaker differentiator.
Students increasingly need evidence of capability through:
Projects + GitHub + Portfolio + Internships + Demonstrable Skills
The question is moving from "Have you learned AI?" toward "What can you actually build and explain using it?"
Takeaway: Learning AI matters, but turning learning into visible evidence of capability matters even more.
