1. India's Technology Job Openings Reach 1.3 Lakh, but Hiring Remains Uneven

India's active technology job openings have reached approximately 1.3 lakh in November 2026, extending a five-month recovery after demand reached a low point in June, according to staffing firm Xpheno's November Active Tech Jobs Outlook, reported by ETHRWorld.

The latest estimate represents a 6% increase compared with October and 27% growth year-on-year. IT services companies are driving much of this recovery, accounting for approximately 76,000 active openings. Global Capability Centres (GCCs) recorded around 19,000 technology openings.

However, the recovery is not equally distributed across the industry. Mid-level and senior professionals account for the largest share of demand, with approximately 70,000 openings. Entry-level opportunities stand at around 16,000, while software product companies and funded startups have experienced declines in active openings.

The report also highlights a shift in workplace preferences. Full-time office-based opportunities significantly outnumber remote positions, indicating that companies are increasingly advertising office-based roles.

Why This Matters:

The increase in technology vacancies is encouraging, but it does not necessarily mean that fresh graduates will find it easier to enter the industry. Employers continue to seek candidates who can demonstrate practical technical skills and contribute to projects with limited supervision.

Students should focus on building demonstrable capabilities through programming, AI applications, real-world projects, GitHub portfolios and technical communication.

INDUSTRY TAKEAWAY: WHAT SHOULD STUDENTS AND EARLY-CAREER PROFESSIONALS UNDERSTAND?

The latest developments point towards an important shift in India's technology and employment landscape.

AI is creating new business opportunities, but employers are also reassessing the skills required from their workforce. Technology job openings are recovering, enterprise AI adoption is expanding, and educational institutions are beginning to rethink how students should prepare for the workplace.

For students and early-career professionals, the focus should be on developing practical capabilities rather than collecting certificates alone.

Five areas worth prioritising:

  1. Programming and problem-solving fundamentals.
  2. Practical AI and LLM application development.
  3. API integration, databases and workflow automation.
  4. Real-world projects documented on GitHub.
  5. Technical communication and the ability to explain project decisions.

The next generation of technology professionals will need to demonstrate not only what they know, but also what they can build, implement and solve.

The key message: Learn the technology, apply it to real problems, build evidence of your capabilities and continuously improve.
