Google Launches an Official Documentation API for AI Coding Assistants
Google's new Developer Knowledge API and MCP Server let AI coding assistants retrieve current, official documentation for Firebase, Google Cloud and Android.

Google has introduced its Developer Knowledge API and MCP Server in public preview. The tools allow AI assistants and coding agents to retrieve current, official technical documentation covering products such as Firebase, Google Cloud and Android.
This addresses a common problem with AI-assisted development: models can produce outdated instructions, reference deprecated APIs or suggest implementations that no longer match the latest documentation. By connecting coding assistants to authoritative documentation, developers can give their tools more reliable context.
For example, an AI assistant working on a Firebase application could retrieve current Firebase documentation rather than relying only on information embedded in its training.
Why it matters for students
Learning to provide AI coding assistants with trustworthy context is becoming an important engineering skill. Students should understand documentation retrieval, MCP integrations, API changes and verification.
