53% of Surveyed Developers Are Already Using AI Agents — But Humans Still Control Production

Agoda's AI Developer Report 2026, based on responses from more than 800 developers and engineering leaders across Southeast Asia and India, found that 53% of surveyed developers already use AI agents in selected production workflows or broadly across their organisations.
However, only 38% consider their codebase mostly or fully ready for completely autonomous agents, while 79% still require human approval before production deployment.
The emerging workflow
The emerging workflow therefore looks more like:
Developer → AI Agent → Review → Test → Human Approval → Production
rather than:
AI Agent → Production
Agoda also reports that 55% of respondents now save at least seven hours per week using AI, up from 18% in 2025.
These findings describe the report's survey respondents in seven markets — not all developers everywhere.
Takeaway: Learn AI-assisted development, but don't stop learning software engineering, testing and review.
